JenniferWILLMERMargaret Jennifer Willmer, known as Jennifer, died peacefully at The Garth Care Home in Kington, Herefordshire, on December 4th, age 86. Jennifer was born in Bradford to Margaret and George Swain on October 30th, 1937. She was married to Peter L. Willmer for over 50 years until his death in 2012 and was a loving and devoted wife and mother. Jennifer adored animals, especially dogs, and had three lovely dogs: Rusty, Raqi, and Pepe. Although she moved to the USA in 1967 and lived there for 34 years, she always considered England her home. Jennifer was passionate about classical music, and when asked about her religious preferences, she said, "Music is my religion." Jennifer studied and taught the piano for many years. Her most beloved and influential teacher and friend was James Tannenbaum at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Teaching piano was Jennifer's calling, and she shared her love of music with beginners of all ages for four decades. She was an outstanding piano teacher in Beachwood, Ohio, USA, and Kington. Students and parents remarked on her professionalism, patience, gentle and encouraging manner, and focus on music theory, music history, and piano technique. She incorporated students' musical interests into her lessons. Her annual student recitals were notable for their relaxed atmosphere and the positive experiences of students and attending families. She worked hard to ensure students could play each piece competently and confidently. She also explained individually to parents and in opening remarks at the recitals that making mistakes was perfectly acceptable. Students gained a lifelong love of music from their time with Jennifer. Jennifer's elder brother Brian passed away previously. She is survived by her two children, John and Carolyn Willmer. A Celebration of Life for this beloved wife, mother, and extraordinary piano teacher will be held at the Hereford Crematorium on January 31st, 2024, at 12:15 pm. The reception will be at the Burton Hotel in Kington at 1:45 pm. All are welcome at the celebration and reception. Please make any charitable donations to Parkinson's UK.
